七草/the seven herbs of spring・the seven flowers of autumn

「春の七草」は、「七草粥」にして食べるなど、食を楽しみ、
「秋の七草」は、花を見ることを楽しみます。

春の七草/the seven herbs of spring
1.芹(せり)Japanese parsley    
2.薺(なずな)=ペンペン草 shepherd’s purse
3.御形(ごぎょう)=母子草 cottonweed
4.繁縷(はこべら、はこべ)chickweed
5.仏の座(ほとけのざ)(正しくは田平子(たびらこ)) Lamium amplexicaule
6.菘(すずな)=蕪(かぶ)a turnip
7.蘿蔔(すずしろ)=大根 a Japanese radish

七草粥: rice gruel containing the seven spring herbs(, eaten on the seventh day of the New Year)

1. 萩(はぎ) (a) bushclover
2. 尾花(おばな) =薄(すすき)Japanese pampas grass
3. 葛花(くずばな)= 葛(くず) kudzu (vine)
4. 撫子(なでしこ) a pink
5. 女郎花(おみなえし)Patrinia scabiosaefolia
6. 藤袴(ふじばかま) (a) thoroughwort
7. 朝貌(あさがお)=「桔梗」であるとの説が定説 a bellflower
